The famous deity Tsathoggua, created by Clark Ashton Smith but also used by H. P. Lovecraft in some of his stories. The background is intended to be a Hyperborean landscape.

John Glasby was the poorest mythos writer. He had Tsathoggua ensconced in the city of Yuth, somewhere in the Bahamas area. It sank some 30,000 years ago in a cataclysm. His idea was tsathoggua was formless and with one eye and squid jaws.


The nonhuman denizens of Yuth worshipped him in "abominable" ceremonies. Carter said that using shuddersome adjectives (ghastly marble, terrible valley, a star winking hideously, the door rattled hideously...) without explanation... and I think EVERYTHING these beings did was "abominable".


Glasby's idea of the Great Old Ones was that they grab and EAT those who aren't worshippers. The slightest error in summoning one...
